Importance Of Reading Books And Some Reading Tips
I came across a post the other day somewhere which was quite thought-provoking. I must share the essence of that post. It was about the effect of reading every book. Please, look at the photograph below carefully and see if you can interpret something of it.
It says a lot about the importance of long-term reading. When you finish a book, you love it, remember everything about it for some time, and maybe recommend or share some ideas from it with your friends, but after some time you forget what was in the book. Then you start to conclude that reading books is useless and a waste of time. You feel like you didn’t learn anything at all.
But there is something unique about this, when you are reading or learning from a book you may not realize what it does to your brain but every book you read or have read makes an impact on your way of thinking and understanding, especially on your subconscious mind. Every book you read plays an extraordinary role in shaping you as an individual. If you continue to do so you will see what benefits you are getting in the long run and you will soon realize the importance of reading. Books help you grow in a way no other medium can ever do. So, read! You may not see the result in the short term but in the long term, everything makes sense. It is the key to staying ahead of others!
Here is the right way to read a book that I recommend and follow:
Choose a book and start reading.
Meanwhile, maintain a note and write down the ideas and things which you think are important and thought-provoking. You can always read your notes instead of re-reading the book.
Use your rational mind to see if the ideas in the book are right or wrong. Try to see its validity.
Try to use those ideas in real life to get the best out of them. This step determines whether you are a learner or just a bookworm. Applying that knowledge is crucial.
Talk about it. Share what you learn. Don’t hesitate while sharing your knowledge because it grows exponentially when you share it with other people/teach them. Start a newsletter or a blog.
Revise your notes after 24 hours-one week -1 month- 3 month – 6 month-1 year intervals so that you never forget anything.
Learn to fall in love with reading. You will see how ignorant we all are with all the knowledge in this world.
When I was a kid I came across this aphorism “Books are our best friends”. At the moment I didn’t realize how meaningful those words were, until today. I chose to ignore that sentence maybe because I didn’t know about the real world or maybe because I had too many friends at that time to be bothered by a random sentence/quote, unlike today. Indeed I strongly agree with that sentence now. We don’t realize the weight of a quote or a piece of work unless we experience it in our own lives.
Books are an escape for me from everything. They make me calm, kind, and patient, enlighten me, give me a purpose in life, and teach me things nobody can. Books give me hope for the world I want. I can be a hero, kill a dragon, cry for lovers, and set my own stage for the stories in it. Maybe that’s the reason movies/shows can’t be our best friends. There is something unique about books, you know it if you know.
What do you think about reading books? Comment and let me know.
